Michael Scott - Lead pastor

My wife, Mai and I came to Grand Cane Baptist Church in January 2012. We've been married for 44 years and have two daughters, three grandchildren and five great grandchildren. We enjoy fishing and I can be talked into  an occasional round of golf.

Our greatest joy in the ministry is seeing people grow in grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ, getting connected to the work of the ministry and the mission of the church.   I feel our Lord's return for the church is near so we must "Be steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain. "

My wife Alix & I moved to Grand Cane in 2010 and were immediately drawn in by the love of the people at Grand Cane Baptist Church, a true faith-family exemplifying the Tribe of Jesus! We count it a joy & blessing to serve here with our other great staff members and leadership. We love all the latest Sci-fi TV & movies, especially anything involving time travel (shout-out to Dr. Who, Marty McFly, and Fringe fans!), reading books, and exploring book stores. My favorite moments are those at worship with the church and teaching/preaching the scriptures.

Galatians 3:20 moves me to personal growth in Christ and helping others toward spiritual formation, "I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me."

I have had the awesome opportunity of serving on staff at Grand Cane Baptist Church since May of 2009, after serving as a Baptist Student Ministry Intern at East Texas Baptist University. I was born and raised in Paris, Texas into an amazing family. I sensed God calling me to this journey of ministry in the summer of 2004. I began attending East Texas Baptist University in Marshall, Texas in the fall of 2005. I graduated in May of 2008 with a Bachelors of Arts in Psychology. In May of 2011, I completed a Masters in Religion of Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary. I also have post-graduate work in Human Services & Counseling. While at ETBU, I met the beautiful Rebecca Barnett who in July of 2010, became my wife. Becca is in full time graduate school pursuing her Master’s Degree in Speech & Language Pathology. We are expecting our first child, Ellisyn, in October 2016!! During our time at Grand Cane, we have learned so much about God, ministry, and people. As the Associate Pastor of Students & Families, I help lead the age-graded ministries of the church, as well as outreach to families in the community. I am an avid sports fan, especially the Texas Rangers! My hobbies include laughing with Becca, spending time with our family, commentating sports on the radio and diving into some sports history.
The Church in Grand Cane is a beautiful collection of sinners redeemed by a loving Creator Father. God is doing so many amazing things through the fellowship in Grand Cane and I humbly ask you to ask our Father if He is guiding you to be a part of it!
